![]() ![]() If you are lucky the plates themselves won't be too bad. If the wear on the pins is bad then the only answer is to replace them. ![]() These tend to develop slots where the holes in the discs bear on them, and sometimes the holes in the discs themselves can become badly elongated. The other area where wear is very common is the six clutch drive pins in the pulley. If this is the case then you can flip it round so that The other, hopefully unworn, face comes into play. Sometimes you can find the collar has multiple grooves where it has been turned before. Both parts can be reinstalled so as to bring fresh surfaces to bear, if they are badly worn. The pin can wear a groove in the insert, and the pin can have a corresponding flat spot. You want to measure the relationship between the face of the insert and the face of the pulley itself, again will give you a ball park adjustment for reassembly. Once you have it all apart then the parts to pay particular attention to are the through pin and the screwed adjusting insert mentioned earlier which it bears against. Make a careful note, or take pictures, so you know which way round everything fits. If this is the case I would replace it with a sealed type, should cost less than £20 from your local bearing supplier. On a lot of machines the bearing is open. Don't remove the central clutch disc from the pulley unless you have to as it is pretty much impossible to remove it without damaging the bearing. ![]() ![]() Next you need to drive out the pin which passes through the shaft, then you can remove the other components, everything should just pull off the shaft including the pulley and bearing. Note that this has an adjustable ring screwed into the face which faces the pulley, more about that later. Once you have removed the spring Then remove the top hat shaped collar underneath it. Probably a good idea to count how many turns it unscrew so you have a rough idea of the adjustment when you put it back. Don't worry about the spring, the tension will be off it well before the collar comes right off. If you need a pin wrench then the adjustable type designed for angle grinders etc work well and aren't expensive. The procedure is to undo the spring retaining/adjusting collar. ![]()
